Raptor Killings, major breakthrough in Pakistan

We have learned today of what can only be described as a major breakthrough in bringing a raptor killer to justice in Pakistan. After Raptor Politics aided by local raptor enthusiasts  on the ground in Pakistan requested our assistance to exposure the widespread slaughter of  raptors taking place in the northern region of Pakistan, after just three days there has been a remarkable development. Following a written complaint sent by Raptor Politics to the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office., together with a written complaint sent to BirdLife International, one person was subsequently arrested & more detentions are expected.

The first case is due to be heard in court shortly, with several other individual being investigated. Will provide more detail as soon as possible after the court hearings are concluded.

Terry Pickford has just received this email from BirdLife International Communications. The information received from Cressida Stevens has been added below in full.

Hi Terry,

Thank you for getting in touch about this very concerning issue. A lot of our work is aimed at ending the illegal killing of birds and it’s good to hear of your advocacy on this. Our Flight For Survival campaign addresses illegal killing of birds specifically, here is the website if you want more information: https://flightforsurvival.org/

To start the campaign we have focused on illegal killing in Europe and Africa but we will soon be expanding our efforts for Asia too so please watch this space. For now – I wish you every success in helping bring this sad practice to an end.

Best wishes,

Cressida Stevens

Let’s hope that all the perpetrators of these brutal killings of Raptors in northern Pakistan are apprehended and took to court , to dissuade any more people from thinking that raptor killing is at all acceptable and is consequence free. Well done to Raptor Politics on your swift action , which seems to have made the authorities aware of these killings .

  • Well done to all concerned.
The Pakistani authorities responded with amazing urgency, and deserve much
    credit.

  • Great result nice to see some action on this sickening crime.
Editor’s Note: It will be extremely interesting to see what penalties, if any, are handed down my the courts following the two recent arrests in Bowland and Yorkshire, following the witnessed shootings of two hen harriers of grouse moors in both regions.
