LET’S GET TO THE POINT:  IT’S TIME FOR VACCINATION, SAYS RSPB

The Environment Secretary’s announcement today about the postponement of the badger cull has been welcomed by the RSPB.

Martin Harper is the Society’s conservation director. He said: “These culls have proved to be extremely divisive. The science suggests that culling will not deliver the solution to this serious and urgent problem. Today’s announcement suggests that farmers and badgers will  be in exactly the same situation next summer.

“This window gives Owen Paterson an opportunity to lead the Government out of this muddle by embracing a vaccination programme, giving a lifeline to livestock farmers and badgers.”

I think the RSPB would do well to stay out of this matter as feelings are running very high on this issue in the farming community with talk of vigilante action against badgers in affected areas. There is plenty of other orgs concerned with badger cull issues so lets leave it to them to sort out.

  • i agree with rspb iff the cull goes on. you will get idiots going round culling baders hilly nilly.

Editor’s Comment, No matter how good the rifle marksmen are, how will they manage to cull all the Badgers in one family at the same time without scattering the animals that are not shot all over the area. This is an ill thought out project that can only end in more problems and not less. The only way to cull a complete family is my using gas after blocking off all den entrances, but that would then cause more public unrest and outrage.

Shame the RSPB didn’t respond with such speed to support Chrissie Harpers Vicarious Liability petition.

  • Yes Che, that is what a good many more are saying, I thought the RSPB were supposed to be for birds, the badgers e-petition was supported and got the required amount of signatures very quickly without their interference, they should stick to what their name says, thanks to them the Vicarious Liability e-petition will fail, politics at work once again, their promises are not work listening to and this makes them look very bad, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Until the RSPB understand how BCG vaccination doesn’t work they should stick to birds!

Editor’s Comment. We would be very interested to learn why BCG vaccination doen’t work?
