Dr. Cat Barlow, an educationalist and ecologist specialising in upland habitats based at the offices of the Langholm Initiative in Langholm reports in her blog that two hen harriers are on the move: a male is heading South towards County Durham, and a female is heading North.
You can find more details on Cat’s blog – Making the most of Moorlands.

I hope it does’nt linger too long if it ends up in the Durham pennines its life will certainly be short lived.
Has any one any more information on the law commission’s proposed view of bringing in vicarious liability into England? It was written in the latest BBC wildlife magazine.

Try this…
Ps its a week since the harrier routes were last reported. Significant?
Hope it doesn’t go to Bowland’s private estates.
E petition against the Badger cull has 47,000 signatures in just over a week. Shame people have little regard for raptors!!

I notice that it is Brian May – guitarist with the popular beat combo ‘Queen’ – who is behind this petition. Maybe that – together with other ‘celebs’ such as Ricky Gervaise supporting the cause (via Twitter) is the reason for so many signatures already. They have a large following.
I know we have that nice Mr Avery on our side – but he doesn’t play to packed-out stadiums (stadia?). Maybe it’s time to forget trying to get the RSPB on board and start asking some of the celebrities on Twitter for support. If the support is forthcoming, and the target is reached without the help of the RSPB, or if it just falls short, well, the RSPB aren’t going to come out of it smelling of roses, are they?
