We once again invite all our followers to log onto Mark Avery’s blog - Standing up for Nature, link attached here, where you can now follow the latest in the Wuthering moors fiasco which appears to have more twists than a snakes tail. Mark goes on to highlight this time Natural England’s failure to provide a transcript to Mark, under the Freedom of Information Act, of the witness statement given by their director Andrew Wood, even though it is understood the witness statement was made in open court as part of Mr Wood’s job.
Mark also informs his followers he has now written to his MP, Louise Mensch, asking her to ask Defra to instruct Natural England to make Andrew Wood’s witness statement available, and to make a full statement about the Walshaw Moor affair. Mark Avery also says that it is his belief that the witness statement would spell out in some detail the gravity of the alleged offences and their environmental importance.
There may however be one fly in the ointment, because it has been our experience when dealing with Conservative MP’s they will all stand together and do what they are told. We truly hope on this occasion Mark Avery’s letter to Louise Mensch achieves the desired affect, but our advise would be don’t hold your breath too long. In our opionion getting Richard Benyon to instruct Natural England to make Andrew Wood’s witness statement available publicly is just not going to happen. If it does, we would gladly eat our chairs before we fell off them.
